Omar Aikens was a multi-millionaire at the ripe young age of twenty-four. He lived a flashy lifestyle and hung out with well-known rappers of his time. But when it came to organized crimes, he ruled with an iron fist as the Capo of the violent street gang, “Sex, Money & Murder” and ran a major cocaine and PCP distribution operation thanks to his Mexican drug cartel supplier. The operation was a sophisticated network that used gang members to move the drugs. And although the gangs’ members’ participation brought in millions, they also brought in the heat with violent shootings that created havoc. And in the blink of an eye. Aikens’ million-door empire was dismantled by an illegal wiretap and his rags to riches lifestyle came to a screening halt after three-month long investigation initiated by the Drug Enforcement Administration. Without incident, Aikens was arrested on drug and First-Degree Manslaughter. Now faced with a doubled-digit sentence, Aikens was forced to fight for his life.

“Where do I start? It is definitely a "must read " for anyone who is doing bids, living that street life but most important our youth, who is possibly thinking about living this life. Those who are idolizing what they see from the outside: the drug money, the cars, the fame but not understanding what's unseen. What it takes to get to the top and the consequences behind chasing the dream that most of our urban community long for: comfortability, stability, a better life for our family! Throughout this book Omar came across a lot of people that he had to trust, from connects, friends, friends of friends and with that trust he realizes in the end not everyone who smile in your face can be trusted! If you don't take anything out of this book just know it doesn't matter how big of a heart you have and how much you want to see everyone win there willALWAYS BE a hater in the mix dressed up as ya boy, ya friend, hell maybe even ya family trying to bring you down and WILL DO WHATEVER it takes to bring you down!”

All I Can Say Is WOW!

I'm not much of a reader, but this book kept me reading. It literally felt like I was right there with Omar. Very good book, and hope to see more from him in the near future. I appreaciate the fact that his story sheds the light on so many urban youth struggles in life, while living in poverty.

“The Ambition of a Rider! (Tupac influence of course.)”

Operation Capital City. Wow! The title fits perfectly. This young entrepreneur (Omar Aikens) had the vision and ambition to put himself and his people (Trenton, the Capital of New Jersey) on from a young age. Bearing early witness to some of the harsh realities systematically plaguing most urban environments such as his own, as well as what seemed to be an "out" to it all, Omar developed an unquenchable appetite for wealth and the finer aspects of life. Like many young Black men hailing from similar environments coast to coast during the 1990's and early 2000's, Omar bought into the illusion of the street "Drug Hustle," by being up close and personal with it and watching some of the best to ever do it, (his father) do it. Omar was never ignorant to the risk involved nor its consequences of "the game". Ye he possibly forgot his own words prior to the birth of his daughter. A reference he made after being released for doing some stolen car time, that if he ever returned to any penitentiary, it would be a Fed case. No local boys would ever touch him again. With that mindset, Omar formed several alliances with individuals in and out of the country and unbeknown to him, manifested his own words by getting the attention of, you guessed it, THE FEDS. Doing so however I wouldn't say was his downfall, yet the break he literally needed by any means necessary.

What I enjoyed most about this read besides the captivating content, was I could relate to it on a personal level, hailing from the city of Trenton, NJ myself. Some parts had me wide eyed, with smiles like "Oh snap, I remember that!" Others had me feeling a little more, melancholy. Both are ingredients for a good story, and it kept me turning the pages. Secondly, after telling his story in vivid detail, I like how the author has a series of questions for readers to ponder and answer, if for nothing more than their own awareness. Questions that could inform and or debunk many misconceptions on why and how young Black men gravitate to the allure of the streets.

Would I recommend this read to another? Absolutely! There were times throughout this read when I thought "Omar" would see the warning signs and simply walk away. Being that wasn't the case, I would recommend this read and others like it to any young Black (Latino) male or other growing up within an urban society. The rules do not change and neither does the game, only the players. So, just as Omar fed into the illusion of the game yesterday by being up close and personal to it. Today, Omar can attest to the flip side of that game. He can attest to the reality of that illusion from his real-life experiences, and forewarn others, it's not about how high up you'll go, how many you take with you, or even how fast you can rise to the top. It's about surviving that inevitable fall that comes along with it. I hope he does a Pt. 2.

Murf :)
